Blah - Day 60

Today was a pretty blah day. It was humid and rainy ALL DAY. We didn't do much. It was one of those days. Days like this really get to me. I am ready to be active and outside. At least when it is warm and sunshiny, we can work outside in the yard or even at Mom and Dad's in the garden.

I started late this afternoon making my Grandmother's Blueberry Rhubarb Jam. We only got one cutting of rhubarb before the hard frost. I was able to make one batch of jam. Our kiddos love it and I usually have it on hand throughout the year. When I was water bathing my jars, one of the jars blew the bottom out. Not the way I wanted this to go for sure, but I ended up with 4 pint jars of jam. Then it got a little more crummy because we started getting water in the basement. It was actually pouring in the basement window because the window well had filled with water. Josh went outside to work while the kids and I cleaned up the basement. Then Josh and I went over to check on a friend of ours and her water situation in front of her house and backyard. The DuPage River in our hometown is rising SUPER high. It is causing LOTS of flooding here. Thankfully, as I type this, it has stopped raining and I am hoping that means less flooding of homes for people.

This week we are going to take a break from school while we wrap up the kids remote learning. We will be outside much of the week hopefully. Brayden does have 2 AP tests on Wednesday, so he will be here on Wednesday working on those for sure.

We will also be preparing for Ella's 11th Birthday on Friday. Mainly that means baking a cake on Thursday and doing some creative cake decorating. I am hoping we can make one more "quarantine " birthday a good one. Josh's will be our last one the first week of June. We always call spring at our house Ruland Birthday season. I am not sure if we will be able to have our traditional family/friend party anytime soon, but I am hoping we have helped make each of the kids' birthdays special.

It is my Grandmother’s recipe. Definitely not healthy, but we love it and the tradition and reminder. ❤️

I bet that Rhubarb-Blueberry jam is the best! I love rhubarb. I'm part of a CSA and we are supposed to get rhubarb from them this week and cannot wait to make rhubarb crisp!
