I didn't write a post. Is anyone else feeling the monotony of the days. I definitely feel that at times. Sometimes I feel like that when we aren't "sheltered-in-place."
But, today we woke up very differently. Today is Emerson's birthday. It started at 3am with him in our bed because he was having growing pains. His legs were extremely painful. We were able to find the laughter in the situation because he was "growing" on his birthday. It was nice to get lots of snuggles.
The day then started with him waiting for everyone to wake up. He was having a hard time being patient. He started waking everyone up sometime after 9:30am. His patience had run out. His dad made him a mocha latte at his request including a big pile of whipped cream. He got a FaceTime call from Grandma and Papa. He loves getting all the attention. He then opened a card from Grandma Judy and Grandpa Mike. Then his next call was from his Aunt Tam Tam. Then Grandma Beth and GrandDad called him. He was having a pretty good morning. We celebrated with his request of biscuits and gravy.
Then it was time to ice Emerson's cake. I usually make pretty elaborate birthday cakes for the kids. It all started when Brayden was born because of his peanut allergy. You couldn't find peanut safe cakes at bakeries 17 years ago. It has been come a tradition now. With our family/friend birthday parties on hold indefinitely, I decided to make Emerson the cake he wanted today. He requested a volcano that erupted. I went to work cutting out the center and adding a jelly jar. Then I iced it with buttercream frosting in brown. Then we added red icing to show the lava. While I was doing that, the Easter bunny drove by! We ran out to say hi and take a picture. What an awesome town we live in. Emerson opened one present after the cake was iced. He got another set of Snap Circuits. He and his siblings played for quite awhile this afternoon building circuits.
Ella set up a "surprise" party for Emerson. She decorated with streamers and had us all hide to surprise Emerson. She sent he and Micah downstairs to get everything ready. She created pin the tail on the donkey and a nerf gun target. Emerson came up to a "surprise." Pin the tail on the donkey was quite funny. Then a nerf contest started, which then transitioned to a full on nerf war. Josh tried to get in on the fun, but it ended up mostly the youngest 3 trying to take down Brayden. It made me smile and laugh so much.
We also went outside to take some pictures of the kiddos with our beautiful flowers. We also had some visitors that came walking down the street. As we looked up, 2 alligators walked up to our house. Then they sang "Happy Birthday" to Emerson. Then all of the sudden, the alligators started coughing, unzipped their costume to reveal that they had eaten a cow and a monkey. :). It was Auntie E and Uncle Rick who came to bring a smile to Emerson's face. It was great to chat with them for a few minutes.

Emerson's request was that we watch "The Greatest Showman" today. So we started the movie while waiting for dinner. Dinner was delivered from Portillo's by Door Dash. Dinner was delivered right on time and made Emerson's night. We then opened presents. Emerson LOVED his new nerf gun and echo dot for his room to listen to music. We then finished "The Greatest Showman" before heading on to cake.
Emerson's cake was a lot of fun. We made it erupt before lighting it on fire and singing "Happy Birthday." Overall, today was a HUGE success. Not only did Emerson have an AWESOME birthday, but we had a great family day. This was just what our family needed. Until tomorrow.....
