Thursday, May 21, 2020 was a pretty blah day. For some reason, I was exhausted. We decided it was going to be our cleaning day to get prepared for Ella's birthday and enjoy the weekend. We also baked Ella's cake to get it started for her big day. I can't believe she is going to be 11. Where has the time gone.
HAPPY 11th BIRTHDAY ELLA!! Today is Friday, May 22, 2020. I can't believe my baby girl is 11. Today started off with her jumping in my bed declaring, "It's my birthday!" We snuggled and she let me sleep in for a bit before I got up to make waffles for breakfast. After waffles, I headed to Walmart to pick up a few things and Ella's request of sushi for lunch. The kids love Walmart sushi. It was a fun lunch for us.
Then it was time to tackle the cake. Ella wanted a version of sword in the stone, except her's was a dagger. She started by working on the fondant while I mixed up the butter cream. We froze her cake yesterday, so I pulled it out to crumb frost. She dyed her fondant a grayish, brown to make it the color of a rock. We used the cake pan that Grandma Great gave me many years ago to make a rock style cake with cheesecake pudding inside. After we got it frosted and the fondant on, Ella decided to spray it with a gray food spray. I love helping their creations come to life.
Her dinner request was mac and cheese and hot dogs. I definitely don't mind the easy dinner. After dinner it was present time. I think she enjoyed her presents. She got some new electronics and a mannequin head to practice hair do's on. She also got a new ghost nerf gun that was a big hit and of course a nerf gun battle ensued. I still love watching them all play together. It seems that Nerf and Star Wars still bring them together.
After presents, Grandma and Papa came up to visit and enjoy cake in the backyard. I am glad we are still finding ways to see each other. Her cake was delicious. She also got to open a few presents from Grandma and Papa including a new hoverboard. It was a big hit with everyone.
The rest of the day and evening was spent finishing packing for our upcoming road trip. We are heading to the Badlands to camp on BLM land. We are super excited to be able to get away for a bit and stay super safe in our Airstream. We are heading out bright and early in the morning and all of the kids are super excited. Can't wait to have a little normalcy after all the "pandemic." We know it isn't over and won't be for awhile, so it will be nice to be able to enjoy a little family time while traveling a little too. I hope everyone has a great weekend and enjoys the sunshine!
