I am hoping I can keep my progress going. Today was an online teaching day for me bright and early. I taught for 2 hours before the kids got up. Then Emerson and I snuggled on the couch and did his morning reading. He then put finishing touches on his fort while waiting for the other kids to wake up. I actually didn't go back to bed this morning which is amazing. I am a sleeper by nature, so my online teaching mornings are always a little rough if I don't get to go back to sleep for a bit.
After the other kids got up, I made a big pot of oatmeal. The kids like picking out lots of toppings to put on it. Blueberries are probably the biggest hit except for Ella because she does not like blueberries. We all got started on our school work. Today Ella and Emerson read "A House is a House for Me" together. It is a fun book that I used to use when I taught 2nd grade. Emerson and I did an activity with the book while Ella went to work on her IEW writing. They then took a little break to go play in the SNOW we got today. Yep! Snow! Thankfully it all melted by this afternoon. Micah keeps plugging away at his school work online. Today he realized that he had worked several days ahead, so tomorrow will be a little lighter for him. Brayden continues to complete this work online as well. His work is a little less structured. He is also studying for his AP tests which are next month. He will be completing those at home online now.
After lunch, I was able to hop on the treadmill again today. I am trying to get in at least 30 minutes on the treadmill or elliptical each day. I am also doing a little lifting for arms and some planks for core. Hoping to keep it up 5 days a week. I then met with 2 of my student teachers online. We were able to complete some of their evaluations together. This has been difficult on them as they are seniors that are completing student teaching this semester. They have all been so gracious and flexible with all the changes and uncertainty.
Micah helped out with Math today for Ella and Emerson. That is one thing I love about homeschooling. I love how they all work together and help one another. Brayden's stomach wasn't feeling well yesterday, so he did a little more sleeping today and getting back to feeling more normal. He was able to complete his schoolwork and is back on the mend.
The one job on our list today was the top of everyone's closet. I helped the three youngest and did mine as well. I also tackled a small section of my closet. I didn't want to do the whole thing at once because it is too overwhelming. That is why I have started adding one task to my list each day. I am feeling so much more at peace now that I have a plan.
Dinner was one of my favorites tonight. I made baked chicken legs. The recipe I used calls for thighs, but we had legs so that is what I used. I also made a side of Costa Rican black beans and rice again and broccoli. It is side dishes that I am finding are a bit more difficult to make. I miss being able to run to Peter Rubi if I am missing something. Not that I still can't go, but I am trying to not leave the house unless absolutely necessary. Peter Rubi is an AMAZING fruit and veggie store less than a half of a block from our house. We are so fortunate to have it so close by.
Here's to another day in quarantine. How are you and your family fairing? How is remote learning going for you?
