I did not end up writing a post yesterday. The day kind of got away from me and I turned in early.
Friday was a typical school day. We started the morning with turnovers and chocolate chip cinnamon rolls to celebrate the start of the weekend. I have always liked to celebrate Friday and the start of the weekend. Doesn't seem to matter as much now that we are always home, but it still means the kids don't have school work and Josh doesn't have work.
I did try my hand a fun seafood dinner Friday night. It didn't come out exactly the way I hoped, but it was yummy non the less. Josh and I did go for a short drive Friday night. It was nice to get out. I will be glad to see the snow go this weekend though. I miss the warm weather. I headed to bed early Friday night because I went turkey hunting this morning.
I was up around 4am this morning. I drove down and met my Dad as he and I both have permits for this coming week. We hunted together socially distanced. :) It was nice to do something different, but we FROZE this morning. It was cold. We HEARD the turkeys gobbling for about 45 minutes before they went away from us. We never did see any. We did see 8 deer. I love seeing wildlife, so it was a fun morning.
The kids played all day. Brayden worked on an old motorcycle that he and his dad are going to restore. He also cleaned out his van. It was nice to see him getting out even if it was the garage and the driveway. Ella helped me plant sunflower seeds for us to plant in the backyard in the next couple of weeks. We sprouted them first and then planted them in small containers to continue growing before we plant them outside. We made pizza for the kids and Josh and I ordered Mora from downtown Plainfield for dinner. We are really trying to support the local small businesses in Plainfield. After dinner he and I decided to go for a drive.
We drove to Pilcher Park in Joliet. I wanted to see if it was open. We haven't been there for years and I remember the trails being neat. What I didn't remember was the beautiful drive. Josh and I were there right at dusk and saw so much WILDLIFE. It made my night. We say egrets nesting, lots of different ducks, geese, and deer. We even saw deer fighting which I have never seen. They were on hind legs pawing at each other. It was quite a sight. I am hoping to take the kids for a drive in the evening. These are reminiscent of our camping days. We always take drives at dusk to see the wildlife. It was a wonderful date night and a change of scenery. There are only so many movie nights you can do.
We are REALLY looking forward to the warmer weather coming this week. I will be getting up bright and early again tomorrow to go hunting again. Hopefully tomorrow we will have more luck. No matter what, I am going to enjoy the time outside and hopefully be a little warmer. Happy Weekend!
